Villa d'Arte

The idea

Villa d'Arte is a long-term art centre project by the two German-based artists Ania Dziezewska - painter and Volker Scheurer - sculptor.

Villa d'Arte is located in northern Tuscany, in Nicciano, a small village dating back to the 14th century, 600 metres above sea level in the Apennines.
It belongs to the Lucca region and is one hour from the coast of the Cinque Terre, a national nature park where it is a pleasure to work creatively.

Exhibitions

In addition to the permanent exhibition of the two house artists, there are always current thematic exhibitions, also by external artists, and guided tours of the art can be booked.

The art bar

The historic bar offers international drinks.
We can organise special events, aperitifs and the like.
Food is available by prior arrangement, Swiss cheese fondue, various pasta in the style of the house.

Holidays

In the Villa d'Arteman can book beautiful artistically designed guest rooms.
You can also book a floor with six guest rooms and a library in its entirety.
The entire Villa d' Arte with eleven guest rooms can also be booked.
In addition to the guest rooms, there is a kitchen, six bathrooms, a fitness room, gallery rooms, an internal bar, studios and a sculpture garden.

Artist in residence

You can stay at the Villa d'Arte as an artist in residence.
Living, working in one of the studios or outdoors and a final exhibition are also possible.
So far, artists from Switzerland, Poland, the USA and Germany have been in residence.
There is also a co-operation agreement with the Academy of Fine Arts Gdansk.

Workshops

In co-operation with many artist friends, we can offer workshops in many artistic disciplines.
For groups of a private or business nature, we can develop a suitable concept for you.

Tuscany art trips

We can put together an interesting two-week art trip for groups.
For example:

  • Four art parks, four thermal baths, four days at the Villa d'Arte
  • One week in Florence, Cinque Terre, Pisa, Lucca and one week at the Villa d'Arte

The project

The Villa d'Arte art project is a project that is constantly changing.
If you book with us in any way, you support the project directly and help it to develop further.

Brief history

The Art Nouveau palazzo has a formative history in the small historic village of Nicciano.
Built in 1922 by Mateo Poleschi as a salumeria, bar, restaurant and guest house, it was very important for the village and the whole area from the very beginning.
During the Nazi era, the building was occupied and converted into a hospital and military hospital.
After the Second World War, the Poleschi family continued to run it as before the war.
After decades of vacancy, Volker Scheurer acquired the building with 1000 square metres of land and 1000 square metres of usable space in 2022 and since then the Palazzo has been transformed into an art gallery with a sculpture garden.
